Frequently asked questions:
It depends on what type of photography you do and whether this includes working with third parties or photographing on third party property. If all of your work is in your own studio and you never have members of the public in your studio then no.
The majority of photographers or videographers however associate with third parties and or members of the public and for this reason we would advise that you do have public liability insurance.
Your camera equipment need to be insured whilst in the studio and out on shoots and it is advisable to have insurance where it enables you to take this equipment overseas. This prevents you having to set up one off insurance whilst you are out of the UK.
Without your equipment; your tools of trade you are unable to work so seek an Insurer who replaces new for old and has a speedy claims process. In addition, you should purchase public liability, definitely. This is because in the majority of circumstances your work will involve third parties or working on third party premises, or people visiting you if you have your own studio. For this reason we would advise that you insure your legal liability to these people. We would then also advise personal accident cover.
It is so common that self employed freelancers and business owners do not think about what would happen if an accident prevented them from working for a short time. For creatives, this is an important consideration. Purchase cover therefore where there is a personal accident benefit that can help you bridge some of the gap in a loss of income.
Then, are you using volunteers to help on a shoot maybe? Or do you have full time or part time employees? If you do it is mandatory through UK law that you carry employers liability insurance; this is the one type of insurance it is illegal to avoid.
Aside of these covers you may have a studio so assets within your studio will require cover.
We may need to consider your Loss of Earnings if the studio is subject to claim and then we can also consider Travel cover if you are working overseas.
Finally, there are considerations for financial loss covers and for this, if you have a limited company you may like to consider Directors & Officers insurance and Professional Indemnity if you are advising as part of your contract with your client.
There is a lot to consider here. H2A Creatives & Media are always available if you wish to discuss this at all.
Yes as long as you tell us which territories you will be working your photography insurance is able to extend to your work overseas.
This depends greatly on the value of your equipment and what activities you will be involved in however our policies start at as little as £xxx.
Of course! We will cover you whatever stage of the journey you are, from start- ups to established businesses H2A Creatives & Media are here to provide protection.
